BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

However you got here, you are welcome to read this.

Maybe you have never heard any of it. Maybe you grew up on it and it went flat. Maybe the last people who said these words to you did real damage with them. All of that is allowed to be true and you can still keep reading.

No pitch, no sign-up. This is just the thing we actually believe, laid out plainly, and it comes down to one idea: none of us are good enough, and that was never the requirement.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. EPHESIANS 2:8

C

CREATION

God made everything, and He made it good. The water, the light, the things that live in both. Then He made people, on purpose, in His own image.

You were not an accident and you were not mass produced. You were made to be known by the One who made you, and to walk with Him without shame or distance in between.

So God created man in his own image.

GENESIS 1:27

R

REBELLION

We were given one boundary and we crossed it. Adam and Eve trusted their own judgment over God's, and every one of us has made that same call since.

That is what sin actually is. Not a scorecard of bad habits, but a turning away. And it put real distance between us and a holy God, distance we cannot close by trying harder, cleaning up first, or being better than the person next to us.

This is the part nobody is exempt from. The person who has never set foot in a church and the person who has been in the front row for thirty years are standing in exactly the same place here.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

ROMANS 3:23

O

OATH

God did not leave it there. In the same chapter where everything broke, He promised that someone would come and undo it.

That promise held for thousands of years. Prophets described Him before He arrived, down to the details of how He would suffer. Jesus, God's own Son, agreed to come and pay for sins He never committed.

This was not a rescue improvised at the last second. It was settled before the world began. He knew exactly what we would do and He made the promise anyway.

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities.

ISAIAH 53:5

S

SACRIFICE

Jesus lived the life we could not live, then died the death we had earned. He was beaten, nailed to a Roman cross, and killed in public while the people He came to save stood and watched.

He was not overpowered. He laid it down. The debt we owed was paid in full by the only person who never owed anything.

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

ROMANS 5:8

S

SALVATION

Three days later the tomb was empty. Death did not hold Him, which means it does not get the last word on us either.

This is where it becomes yours. Not by cleaning yourself up first, not by joining anything, not by earning it. You admit you need Him, you believe God raised Him from the dead, and you follow Him from there.

And when you fail after that, and you will, His hand is still out. That is not a loophole. That is the entire point. He did not save people who had it together. There were never any of those.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
